We braved the cold last weekend to get a tree. We have had absolutely no time to do anything in the way of Christmas. It has been the crazies and then some. So Saturday we drove up the road to Big Lake. Of course it was closed, hence unbladed, snow-packed with nary a soul in sight. We took our chances and drove through the road block. Driving with 4WD on for some 15 miles, we stopped at a knoll and traipsed through 10" deep snow keeping eyes peeled for anything remotely symmetrical. Of course Stella and Sully didn't wear snowboots and tried to walk in footsteps to keep from getting too much snow. (Trav's stride was too long, so they followed me.) We found a decent blue spruce plus a d&d tree we buzzed and loaded for firewood. We downed some hot cocoa and donuts and made it back to town before predicted wind gusts of 60mph picked up. (All the front shingles from our shed are down the hill at the neighbors. Four trees 2+ feet in diameter blew over. Gotta love life on the high plateau!)
Eat your heart out Clark Griswald!!!
