Our dogs are like family and we have nursed them through a few episodes. A year ago Razor had parvo and we had to give her an IV for several days. Last month Thora got into something sharp that sliced her up pretty bad on her chest and shoulder area requiring 30 stitches and a daily dose of antibiotics. Today she got bit by a rattlesnake and her neck swelled up like a grapefruit. She had to have a anti-venom injection and is again on penicillin. Through it all these dogs are up and around and pretty mobile.
Last week both Mitchell & Trav had a stomach virus. They were hurtin' BAD and were miserable. I would say "sicker than a dog" but I have never seen our dogs looking like they did. Luckily it was just a 24 hour bug.
As far as the snake bite, hopefully Thora recovers okay. The swelling went down, but now the skin is all stretched out and hanging down. She has been through a lot this year. (Whelping 7 pups, getting slashed, and now the venomous chomp) She's tough!

How awful... the flu is never fun, but the summer flu must be the worst! You guys don't have time to get sick! I am not envious of the kids going back to school, and they aren't looking all that thrilled! Ha. Hope you make it to do some late school shopping.
